It's been a few days since Franny had her babies, and she decided to get back to Elf Fit HIIT that she was doing before she got pregnant. She's had some feelings of heaviness and bulging in her pelvis. But today with running and bouncing on the trampoline, at class the feelings have gotten worse and she has leaked. This has been me every day since I got back from maternity leave. 15 patients and NOT ONCE, not once have I given them pelvic floor exercises but RELAXATION exercises. Guys, this "switching on your core/pelvic floor" by feeling for your lower abs/transverse abs is creating a whole lotta women whos core isnt working, despite the advice from your health care professionals. ... But yet the health & fitness professionals keep pushing "contract, contract,contract" to fix your pain/get stronger/cure your leakage. Did you think maybe your problems are being caused by over working muscles? Just because you feel a tightening under your finger tips when you do a lower ab contraction does not mean your core and pelvic floor work properly...its probably just your internal oblique instead ......

My first day back last week and talking to patients got me thinking about WHY the believe certain things about their body and Pelvic health. Its because of the amount of wrong and potentially damaging info out there...especially by Health & Fitness Professionals. there are no pelvic floor exercises. It contracts (a kegal) and relaxes. Thats it.... Every movement and exercise uses the pelvic floor, but it depends on you, if you have pain or symptoms, and how your core works as to how the pelvic floor moves during the movement. not everyone needs to do pelvic floor and core contractions. Most women need to give these muscles a break and RELAX them. Maybe this is why you have pain, the muscles need a rest?? there is no "one size fits all" way to cure your leakage or tummy separation. There really isnt. It always comes down to the one and only you. Why not get checked out by someone who works in pelvic health and find out what your body needs.
